| Decide which companies suit your wants; price coverage features, etc etc...and then find the ones with the least market share or policyholders in south florida or florida in general. When Hurricane Andrew racked up record amounts of claims back in '95 or whenever it was, Allstate took the biggest hit and for years afterwards they nickeled and dimed everyone to death and did tons of feet-dragging when it came to paying out claims. These days with everybody trying to squeeze money out of everyone else, the next hurricane to come thru south florida is going to rack up even bigger costs primarily due to fraudlent and inflated claims. You can bet the companies with the most on the hook know this and are going to make it ridiculously difficult afterwards in order to recoup payouts asap. I would do my best to avoid getting caught up in that scenario, even if the premium was a little more, especially on DD's and cars you actually use where you dont have the luxury of fighting out a protracted claim.
